Ocanos in Islamorada-Bye Bye Holiday Isle

Wow! Last night was the unveiling of the plans to turn Holiday Isle into Ocanos! A good time was had by all.

We are all trying to remember how to pronounce it. Is it Ocanos which rhymes with Poconos, or is it a soft c as in ocean? Is the accent on the first, second or third syllable?

I am sure that repeated advertisement will clear up the question.

All the on site Realtors and help were from Miami. I guess the local folk are not their style. I wonder how they will answer the question "How far to Anne's Beach?".

The unit was beautiful. I have to hand them that. The furnishings are tasteful and the atmosphere they have created is near about perfect. I hope they ensure all the units have the candles. They made it a feast for the nose as well as the eyes. Aromatherapy is one of my favorites. I also liked the fact you did not have to see the kitchen appliances. Sometimes you don't want a kitchen while on vacation. It certainly was a step up from the usual mini bar!

Want more info? Contact me. I have an extra brochure.

What an idiot you are! You are cheering on the destruction of one of the last places in the Keys with any character so it can be rebuilt into a place you'll never be able to afford to visit! Are you bright enough to realize that?

I guess you have no problem being a greedy real estate agent, eh?

"Aromatherapy is one of my favorites." You should be ashamed of yourself, moron.

Dear Native:

Where did I cheer? I am not a "greedy real estate agent" I love the keys as we have them. I realize that I cannot control this, our fine council issued the permits, not me. I have to deal with what we are given and when you get lemons, you make lemon aid.

You change the permits, I will do handstands.

Native, did you read the same post I did? All she said was she liked the room. She never said she was in favor of this. They are using Miami Realtors, remeber?

Why not ask Bill Fountian why they are using Miami people who don't know the area?

Sorry for the vitriolic post earlier in the year. At the time I was very bitter regarding all the high-end real estate development happening all over my home state, from Broward down to Monroe.

I'm a little embarrassed at my personal attack on you and owe you an apology. Please accept it.

Since then, one of my favorite bars in Fort Lauderdale has been spared a similar fate, and now Ocanos is dead. I couldn't be happier.

Again, sorry for the mean comment, and best of luck to you in the slow market.

Dear Native:

No problem. I understand your frustration. They are trying to change everything so quickly. If it was a little bit at a time it would be easier to adapt. The crane skyline in downtown Miami is a tribute to "If it is more than 5 years old, tear it down"

I think as human beings we like continuity. The investors want profits. So where we have to find a happy medium.

PS. I LOVE the word vitriolic!
